The Fiji Sugar Corporation has not made any significant progress to establish the co-generation project to produce more electricity for sale to Fiji Electricity Authority

Corporation chief executive Deo Saran says the co-generation project will largely depend on the amount of cane and baggass which will be required to run the co-generation plant.

Nonetheless Saran says the FSC will be appointing a co-generation Manager sometime this month to start the process of finalizing the co-generation study and also activating for calling the tenders for the project.

Saran says if all goes well, the Corporation is expecting to put up the project at the Rarawai Sugar Mill in Ba by 2010.

However, Saran says this years season is likely to end very similar to what was seen last year with around two point four million tons of cane production.

He says atleast three million tons of cane is first needed to produce around three hundred thousand tons of sugar to be exported to UK under an arrangement effective from next year until 2015.
